New YouTube Layout

Today is the day that YouTube changes over to the new layout. YouTube has once again changed the website drastically without involving our suggestions, ideas or input of any kind. YouTube have stated

there are human beings at YouTube who look at every piece of feedback

however hundreds if not thousands of posts have been made onto the feedback section of YouTube to absolutely no avail. They likely do look at each piece of feedback but only see the ‘positive’ responses; and said by ‘DJMikiRia‘:

That is not asking for feedback,  that is asking for coddling which I refuse to do.  The best reply is an honest reply.

Since December the box has been looming above our channels warning us that we must change to the new design. It now looks bland and grey without any freedom of expression. This colourless look further depicts the cruel dictatorship we are all held under. Advertising is now placed to the side of your videos (this can be turned off) to gain revenue for YouTube; money seems to be the predominant reason for the change-over seeing the great outcry from the community on the Feedback & Suggestions page: http://goo.gl/Vzgt4

A great post has been made to suggest ways to protest the new YT layout & channel design and you should definitely take some time to read through it if this concerns you as much it does us –  http://goo.gl/fwwRN

YouTube Sign Major Licensing Deal

Recently, a legal battle lasting four years between YouTube and over 3000 independent music publishers has ended after YouTube agreed to pay licensing fees to the National Music Publishers Association. This means that copyright holders can use YouTube’s Content ID tool to find videos containing their copyrighted material.

What does this mean for youtubers such as us? Music publishers are now able to block videos, keep them up or make money from them (made from advertising). This applies to original music videos, fan-created content and even cover versions. So for instance, EMI Publishing has the choice to do any of the three mentioned options to our cover of Hey Soul Sister. So is this a good thing for YouTube users?
